Van Lanschot Kempen Investment Management’s farmland fund has added two blueberry farms in the US to its portfolio.

The Kempen SDG Farmland Fund has invested an unspecified sum to acquire the Pan American and Othello blueberry farms in the Pacific Northwest, US.

The assets in Oregon and Washington comprise 300 planted hectares and 405ha in total, the manager said.

Richard Jacobs, head of farmland investments at Van Lanschot Kempen Investment Management, said: “This acquisition is the next step in our commitment to developing a long-term investment platform for productive farmland. Sustainability and innovation are at the core of our investment beliefs.

“The Pan American and Othello blueberry farms combine high-quality farmland, favourable growing conditions, best-in-class infrastructure, and on-the-ground expertise. Together, they will anchor and enhance our investment approach in key regions for organic and established orchards, and should enable the fund to make an active, positive contribution to both our investment goals and our commitment to facilitate a significant shift towards sustainable farmland.”

The Kempen SDG Farmland Fund is a €457m global sustainable farmland fund backed by Dela, De Goudse, and the PostNL pension fund.

The fund aims to support regenerative agriculture by improving soil health, enhancing biodiversity and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
