AEW, Strategic Value Partners, Aviva Investors, Areim, Nido Living, CPP Investments, Knight Frank, NBIM

AEW – the global real estate investment adviser has promoted Gina Szymanski to the position of chief investment officer for global securities. Szymanski was previously senior portfolio manager for AEW’s North American securities platform, which represents mor than 70% of the firm’s total global securities holdings. As the global CIO, she will have direct oversight of investment decisions in Europe and Asia Pacific, as well as North America, and will lead AEW’s global securities allocation committee. She will continue to report directly to AEW’s head of global securities, JT Straub. Robert Oosterkamp, who previously served as CIO for the adviser’s global securities business, will be leaving the firm at the end of the year to pursue an entrepreneurial venture.

Strategic Value Partners – the global alternative investment firm has hired Nikolay Golubev to co-lead its European real estate efforts alongside Anders Hemmingsen, based in its London office. Golubev joins SVP from Bain Capital, where he served as a partner on the special situations team, and focused on real estate special situations, distressed and non-performing debt, as well as capital solutions. Prior to Bain Capital, Golubev held roles at Apollo and Merrill Lynch, where he began his career in the firm’s real estate principal investment team in Frankfurt.

Aviva Investors – the global asset management business of Aviva plc has appointed Rory Spriggs as an investment manager in its real estate equity team. Reporting to Imogen Ebbs, head of strategic investment, Spriggs will help build on the success of Aviva’s recent £1.5bn (€1.74bn) housing deployment and future growth plans. He joins from Legal & General, where he was responsible for direct investments in long-term housing sectors, including single-family rental, urban build-to-rent and affordable housing. Prior to L&G, he worked for D2 Private, a pan-European, commercial-led investment firm.

Areim  Frida Einarson has been appointed head of investor relations. She was previously partner, investor relations at Verdane, and before that Jefferies. Einarson will also join the management team.

Nido Living – the student accommodation platform backed by Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments), has appointed Daniel Havers as head of Germany as the business prepares to enter the German market. Nido Living said this was a strategic hire as the student accommodation provider continues its European growth strategy. Havers brings 18 years’ experience in real estate investment, asset management, and development in Germany. He has held senior roles at Tishman Speyer, pwr development, and Strategic Value Partners.

NBIM – Morten Kampli, global co-head of unlisted real estate at Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM), the manager of Norway’s Government Pension Fund Global (GPFG), is leaving NBIM, he announced recently. Having worked at the central bank arm for ten years, Kampli said on LinkedIn he had decided to “pursue new opportunities within real estate here in Oslo”. The NOK20trn (€1.67trn) GPFG, which had nearly NOK700bn in listed and unlisted property investment at the end of June this year, is invested in non-Norwegian assets.

Knight Frank  Vivian Liao joins the global real estate consultancy as head of global portfolio solutions, Asia-Pacific. This appointment highlights the firm’s strategic hiring across its ‘Occupier’ platform and its continued commitment to providing best-in-class real estate advisory services for multinational corporations in the region. Liao joins the firm with an extensive background in the occupier real estate sector, having held senior roles at CBRE and JLL. With over 15 years of experience working in regional markets teams and managing large-scale multinational clients’ portfolios for Asia-Pacific and EMEA, she brings significant experience to Knight Frank’s highly integrated service offering.
