Canadian pension fund OMERS has appointed Luca Lupo as head of Europe for its infrastructure arm, succeeding Alastair Hall, who held the position for just over four years until last month.

Lupo has been appointed senior managing director and head of Europe at OMERS Infrastructure, and will report to Michael Hill, executive vice president and global head of infrastructure.

Lupo will lead the regional team based in London and will oversee regional origination activities and the platform’s management of its investments in Europe.

Lupo, who joined OMERS Infrastructure in 2022 as managing director, will also join the infrastructure management committee. Since joining OMERS, Lupo has been a member of the OMERS Infrastructure leadership team and has contributed to several portfolio initiatives, including originating the acquisition of Grandi Stazioni Retail (GSR), which established the platform’s presence in Italy.

He currently serves on the boards of GSR and Associated British Ports.

Prior to OMERS, Lupo was a managing director with Morgan Stanley in the transportation and infrastructure team in the investment banking department. He also had prior roles at Barclays and UBS.

Hill said: “Luca stood out as the absolute right choice for this role. He has deep knowledge of European markets, our portfolio, and is highly respected by our portfolio company management teams, advisers and investment partners.

“Europe is, and will remain, a core region for OMERS, and Luca’s leadership will help position our platform for its next strategic phase.”

Lupo said: “I’m delighted to take on this leadership role. Europe is a core market for OMERS within which we have built a strong and diversified infrastructure portfolio and are actively pursuing new opportunities across the energy, transport and digital sectors.”

Hall departed OMERS Infrastructure last month, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He was appointed to lead the European business in November 2021, having previously served as global head of investment strategy and partnerships. Hall first joined OMERS Infrastructure in 2014.

A spokesperson confirmed that Lupo is taking over the role from Hall, who resigned in January and completed his final day on 27 February.
