Nuveen has appointed Jessica Bailey as head of global infrastructure as part of plans to scale up its $34bn (€29bn) infrastructure investment management business.

Bailey, who was previously CEO of Nuveen Green Capital, has been hired for the newly created role, and will report to CIO Saira Malik.

Nuveen has also launched a global infrastructure platform that brings together Nuveen Green Capital and its energy infrastructure credit and infrastructure equity teams, led by Don Dimitrievich and Biff Ourso, respectively.

Nuveen Green Capital provides sustainable financing solutions for critical infrastructure in commercial real estate, focused on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and resiliency project.

Alexandra Cooley will replace Bailey as CEO of Nuveen Green Capital, while also retaining her role as CIO at the subsidiary.

The infrastructure investment platform will become one of six “asset class pillars” at the $1.3trn asset manager, alongside those covering real estate, natural capital, private debt, fixed income and equities.

Nuveen said the platform would position it capture opportunities arising what it estimated to be $94trn in global infrastructure investment needs between now and 2040.

“Over the course of multiple decades, we’ve strategically built out our broader alternative investment capabilities, and today we’re ready to meet the unprecedented client demand for infrastructure exposure across both public and private markets,” said CEO Bill Huffman.

“We’re committed to delivering comprehensive infrastructure solutions across the risk-return spectrum, from development-stage clean energy projects to stabilised digital infrastructure assets and differentiated securitised investment-grade opportunities.

“By bringing together our specialised teams, we can better serve clients who are seeking to allocate capital to the infrastructure investments that are essential to the global economy.”
