MPC Capital has expanded its commercial ship management services with the acquisition of a 50% stake in Albis Shipping & Transport.
The real assets manager said it acquired the “strategic stake” in the tanker specialist for an undisclosed amount.
Hamburg-headquartered Albis, led by Kim Moeller, operates a commercial platform for tankers of various sizes. In addition to the tanker business, Albis is also active in the dry bulk segment via a joint venture as well as the sale and purchase of tonnage.
Christian Rychly, managing director of MPC Maritime Holding, said in view of the new International Maritime Organization 2020 regulations and the relatively high average age of the global tanker fleet, MPC expects a number of changes to the tanker industry going forward.
“This will include discussions on the alternative propulsion technologies as well as appropriate ship designs for the changing trade flows
“We are also seeing growing interest from institutional investors who want to develop these new concepts jointly with us.”
MPC Capital’s shipping industry investment services include market research, sourcing and structuring of the investment, as well as financial management.
The companies subsidiaries include technical ship management firm Ahrenkiel Steamship and Contchart a commercial ship management business.
