Virginia Retirement System has approved $425m (€403.8m) worth of new commitments to funds that invest in infrastructure.

The pension fund disclosed in a meeting document that it made the commitments via its real assets portfolio by placing $200m into the EIG River Energy Partners fund, $75m into the True Green Capital Fund IV fund and $150m into the Icon Infrastructure Partners VI fund.

Manager EIG specialises in private investments in energy and energy-related infrastructure on a global basis.

Virginia Retirement’s commitment to the True Green Capital Fund IV was part of the fund’s recent $650m close. Fund IV invests in distributed, commercial and industrial solar power generation projects, batteries, and microgrids in the US and Europe.

As reported earlier, Icon Infrastructure is planning to raise $3bn for its latest fund which makes investments in Europe and North America. Partners VI targets mid-market investments in core-plus or value-add portfolio companies.
