Teachers’ Retirement System of the State of Illinois (TRS Illinois) has added Macquarie Group to its infrastructure manager line-up, backing its latest European fund for which sources say it is seeking to raise €5bn.
The $51.6bn (€45.46bn) pension fund said it has approved a €200m commitment to the Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund 6 (MEIF6).
According to sources, the fund held a first close in January this year. Its predecessor MEIF5 raised €4bn in September 2016.
MEIF6 will target utilities, transportation, communications and renewable energy assets in Europe.
TRS Illinois said it has also approved a $200m investment in Westbrook Real Estate Fund XI, a $300m commitment to Blackstone Real Estate Partners IX, and a $200m investment in Rockpoint Real Estate Fund VI.
