City Development Ltd’s (CDL) subsidiary Copthorne Hotel Holdings has bought the 706-room hotel in the UK for £280m (€319m).

CDL said the acquisition of the Holiday Inn London - Kensington High Street asset aligned with the group’s strategy of investing in “rare, value-creation opportunities” that enhanced its portfolio quality and created long-term shareholder value.

The hotel has consistently performed well achieving almost full occupancy for the nine months to September 2025.   Kwek Leng Beng, CDL’s executive chairman, described the deal as “a once-in-a-lifetime chance” to secure an ultra-prime freehold site in Central London.

“Freehold sites in this location are exceptionally scarce, and it is even rarer to find one directly adjacent to our Copthorne Tara hotel. With this acquisition, the group will now own two of the largest freehold sites in London’s most affluent Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.”

With this acquisition, the group has increased the number of rooms it manages in Central London to 3,000. Its six properties include The Biltmore Mayfair, Millennium Hotel London Knightsbridge and Millennium Gloucester Hotel London.
