Sampension is investing around DKK500m (€67m) to purchase a newly-built residential property in Copenhagen’s southern Ørestad district, describing the deal as its largest real estate investment so far this year.
The Danish pension provider, which managed DKK286bn in total assets at the end of 2024, said it is buying the Marthahus building, with a total space of 12,292sqm including 154 rental apartments. It added that the property forms part of Copenhagen’s Bellakvarter – a newly-developed urban area around the residential and commercial development Bella Center International.
Marthahus was was built by Bellakvarter – owned by Sampension and fellow Danish pension fund AkademikerPension – which has been developing the Bellakvarter area since 2020 in collaboration with development partner Solstra, Sampension said.
Torbjørn Lange, head of real estate and infrastructure at Sampension, said: “It’s very pleasing that with our largest property investment so far this year, we’re now able to add Marthahus to our portfolio of well-located residential properties.”
He said it was a newly-built, high-quality property in an attractive area where tenant demand was high.
“So we expect the investment will help ensure a decent return on our customers’ pension savings,” Lange said.
Sampension said that this spring, Bellakvarter became the first urban area in Denmark to receive the sustainability certification DGNB Gold, which included Marthahus, adding that Marthahus also has its own DGNB Gold certification.
The property was designed by Praksis Arkitekter, and the general contractor was V8 Construction, Sampension said.
