Madison International Realty has acquired a significant minority stake in European student housing platform Home & Co from TPG Real Estate Partners for an undisclosed sum.
TPG will retain majority ownership of the platform, while Home & Co’s management team will continue to lead its investment and operational strategy.
Madison’s capital will support the business’s next phase of growth.
Founded in 2019, Home & Co operates 19 purpose-built student housing properties across Germany, offering more than 3,500 beds in key university cities including Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart.
Ben Deeg, business unit partner at TPG, said: “Since our investment in 2019, Home & Co has built the business into one of Germany’s leading student housing platforms – a self-sufficient owner-operator with a high-quality portfolio, a scaled in-house operating capability, and a strong position across attractive university markets.
“Our continued confidence in the team and the strategy they have set, coupled with Madison’s investment, reflects a shared conviction in the opportunity ahead as the team continues executing on Home & Co’s growth strategy.”
Maximilian Sauermann, managing director, head of European investments & co-CIO at Madison International Realty, said: “This transaction reflects our broader strategy of identifying best-in-class real estate platforms where strong operational performance meets constrained access to capital, enabling us to serve as a strategic liquidity partner to accelerate growth and support existing structures with our deep sector expertise.”
Vincent Steigenberger, CEO of Home & Co, said: “This partnership is a strong endorsement of the platform our team has built and the momentum we have created – both in the assets we have added and in how those assets perform day to day.
“With the support of TPG and Madison, we are well positioned to continue expanding in attractive markets, investing in our platform, and further enhancing the residential experiences we provide to students.”
