Typewriter will become Work.Life’s 12th coworking location across London, Reading and Manchester.

W.RE's 22,000 ft2 (2043 m2) Typewriter is being redeveloped from an office machinery business, originally built in 1957 by architects Richard Seifert and Wilem Frischman. The scheme should complete in the third quarter of this year.

Features of the five-storey office include a winter garden, a bio-solar roof, a rooftop terrace overlooking The Shard, cycle spaces for 42 bicycles, and shower facilities. The project is targeting WELL Readiness, while the refurbishment is in line with BREEAM Excellent standards.

Said Chris Bonner, head of asset management at W.RE: 'We are delighted to have secured Work.Life on a pre-let at Typewriter, reflecting the continuous demand for high quality coworking and flex space across Borough and London Bridge submarkets.

'Typewriter is a retrofitted, modern building living inside an attractive 1950s shell, sustainably designed to meet the demands of today’s office user. We look forward to seeing Work.Life breathe life into the building transforming it into a thriving hub for innovation and collaboration.'

David Kosky, co-founder of Work.Life said: 'We’re thrilled to embark on this new venture with W.RE and the impressive Typewriter building. Its prime location in the heart of Borough, just a stone’s throw from our busy Bermondsey space, presents an incredible opportunity for us and our community.

'In our commitment to sustainability as a B Corp, we proudly aim for BREEAM Excellent and WELL Readiness certifications from our buildings which Typewriter is targeting, reflecting our dedication to creating a positive impact on the environment and the well-being of our community.'

W.RE's workspace portfolio in London also includes 75 Grosvenor Street, a repositioning of three Grade II listed buildings to create office space, the redevelopment of Clapham Junction’s renowned historic department store, Arding & Hobbs, and St Pancras Campus, 160,00 ft2 of sustainable office and light industrial space in the heart of the Kings Cross Knowledge Quarter.
