Plans for the Wood Wharf mixed-use development at London's Canary Wharf estate have been granted outline planning approval by the local authorities, enabling work to begin on the massive waterside scheme.

Wood Wharf is a joint venture between Canary Wharf Group, British Waterways and Ballymore Group. Under the plans, the seven-hectare site to the east of Canary Wharf will be transformed into a mixed-use development comprising offices, homes, retail and leisure space, a hotel and community park.

The scheme was designed by architects Rogers, Stirk, Harbour + Partners with landscape architects Martha Schwartz Partners. It is expected to create 25,000 new jobs, of which an estimated 5,000 will be taken by local people.

The redevelopment of Wood Wharf will take place over the next 10 to 15 years in four phases.
