Dundrum Town Centre in Ireland has won the award for the best new shopping mall at the 32nd annual conference of the International Council of Shopping Centers held this week in Warsaw. The award-winning project in the category very large centres is owned by Crossridge Investments. Silesia City Centre in Katowice in Poland received a commendation.

Forum Coimbra in Portugal, developed by Multi Corporation and owned by ING Real Estate, was awarded the prize in the large new centres category. Chapelfield shopping centre in Norwich in the UK received a commendation.

Dolce Vita in the Portuguese city of Porto won the category for medium-sized shopping centres (30,001 - 45,000 m2). The centre is owned by Lisbon-based Amorim Imobiliaria. Ettlinger Tor centre in Karlsruhe in Germany, developed by ECE Projektmanagement, and the Kanyon centre in Istanbul, developed and owned Eczacybaby, both received commendations in this category.

Klepierre's Place d' Armes in Valenciennes, France emerged as the winner of the best new centre under 30,000 m2. The centre with 12,180 m2 of gross leasable area was developed by Segece Paris.

McArthurGlen Barberino Designer Outlet in Florence, Italy received a commendation in the specialised factory outlet section, but no award was granted in this category. Europark Salzburg in Austria won the extensions and refurbishments category after an expansion from 30,500 m2 to 50,700 m2.


RioSul Shopping in Seixal, Portugal received a commendation after a modernisation programme that increased the gross leasable area from 27,349 m2 to 44,302 m2. L'esplanade in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium and Manchester Arndale in the UK were both recognised as benchmark retail regeneration schemes. Portuguese shopping centre developer Sonae Sierra was recognised for what the judges called its ' practical implementation of sustainable business management from development to operation, and willingness to share best practice'.

Noting that the jury had a hard task, chairman Stephen Pragnell said: ' The finalists represented 20 dynamic, cutting-edge shopping centres from 15 countries. The ICSC's prestigious 2007 European awards are the best and
brightest of their kind.' The winners are automatically entered for the 2007 ICSC International Awards to be announced in December this year.
