Wilson Bowden, the British commercial and residential property developer, has confirmed media speculation that it is in talks about a possible takeover of the company. 'The Board can confirm that it is in preliminary discussions with a number of parties regarding a possible offer for the company,' Wilson Bowden said in a statement on Monday.

But the company added: 'these discussions are at a very early stage and there can be no certainty they will lead to a formal offer being made for the issued share capital of the company.' Media reports at the weekend named rivals George Wimpey, Redrow and Bellway as being interested in a takeover, which was speculatively at £1.7 bn (EUR 2.5 bn).

In accordance with Rule 2.10 of the City Code on Takeovers and Mergers, Wilson Bowden confirmed that it had 94,592,495 ordinary shares of 10 pence each in issue as at the close of business on Friday, November 24.
