PropertyEU launches its 2013 series of investment briefings with an examination of the opportunities and risks facing real estate professionals in the European logistics sector.
The logistics and distribution property sector finished on a high note last year as Prologis unveiled a joint venture with Norway's massive oil-fuelled pension fund.
The joint venture was established to buy the EUR 2.4 bn logistics portfolio made up largely of assets held by the former ProLogis European Properties (PEPR) fund.
It was the first time the EUR 500 bn Norwegian Government Pension Fund Global, managed by Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM), strayed outside the office and retail sectors since it began direct investment in real estate two years ago.
Also during 2012, US private equity giant Blackstone invested at least €700 mln in logistics and industrial portfolios in Europe. Another major logistics player, Goodman, made changes to its global development and investment platform in a move which highlighted the growing importance of Europe to the group.
Investors like the stable cash-generating characteristics of the logistics and distribution sector. But where are the best opportunities in 2013, and do they centre on acquiring existing portfolios or getting into projects at any early stage? Which country markets are hot and which should be treated with caution?
These are some of the questions to be addressed at PropertyEU's Logistics Investment Briefing in London on 30 January.
The event is being hosted by CBRE at Henrietta House between 8-10am.
The expert panellists include James Markby, Director, head of European Industrial & Logistics Investment at CBRE; Richard Holberton, director, EMEA Research at CBRE and Emmanuel Van der Stichele, Emmanuel Van der Stichele, Fund Director, Goodman European Logistics Fund (GELF).
