Sydney-listed shopping centre specialist Westfield has won the International Council of Shopping Centers 'Best of the Best' award for the design and development of its 156,000 m2 scheme in the White City district of London. The award in the 'new retail project' category was presented for Westfield London at the ICSC RECon global conference in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

Westfield London opened in October 2008, offering 300 shops, 50 restaurants across three distinct areas, 14-screen all-digital Vue cinema, as well as The Village which houses 40 luxury brands.

Sales for the 12 months to March this year came to just below £1 bn (EUR 1.2 bn). Approval was granted recently for an extension to the north of the site containing an additional 50,000 m2 of retail and leisure as well as 1522 apartments.
