Belgian investor Weerts Logistics Parks (WLP) has secured a construction permit for a new sustainable logistics centre in Ghent, Belgium.
The WLP XVIII will be located along the Pantserschipstraat, near the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal and the R4 Ring Road.
The 32,500 m2 project, aiming for a BREEAM Excellent certification, will feature solar panels, EV charging stations, and heat pumps, making it one of Belgium's most sustainable and environmentally friendly buildings.
Real estate advisor Ceusters helped WLP secure National Gent Performance Polymers BV, a subsidiary of National Sweden, as the anchor tenant for the project. National Gent specializes in converting sustainable polymeric materials for the automotive industry.
Construction of the project is set to commence in September, encompassing the development of 10,584 m2 of warehouse space and 630 m2 of fully-fitted offices. The project is expected to be completed by mid-summer 2025.
Christophe Weerts, VP of Business Development at WLP, commented: ‘This project underlines our ambition to create sustainable, high-end logistics solutions in prime locations. At WLP, we are committed to combining innovative design with eco-friendly practices, as reflected in WLP XVIII's pursuit of BREEAM Excellent certification. By integrating green technologies like solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations, and heat pumps, we aim to set new standards for logistics infrastructure that not only meet the needs of our clients but also contribute to a more sustainable future. The strategic location in Ghent further emphasizes our focus on providing efficient, well-connected sites that benefit both our partners and the environment.’
The value of the investment has not been disclosed by WLP.
WLP has over 1 million m2 of projects under development across Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, the UK, Hungary, and Italy, as well as a substantial land bank in strategic locations worldwide.
