WDP, the Euronext-listed closed-end real estate investment company, together with Schiphol Real Estate are to receive the first two Dutch BREEAM sustainability certificates.
WDP has been awarded the certificate with a 'Good' rating for a 27,000-m2 logistics site in the city of Tilburg. The company said it is the first real estate investment company in the Netherlands to be awarded a BREEAM certificate for sustainable construction for a logistics site.
Schiphol Real Estate, the property arm of the Schiphol airport group, has been awarded the other certificate for an office building.
The BREEAM-+L assessment method was launched in September 2009 as the first sustainability quality mark for new builds and large-scale renovations on the Dutch market. The BREEAM certificates are assessed and issued in the Netherlands by the Dutch Green Building Council (DGBC).
The certification path not only assesses the energy consumption of a building but also the use of the land, ecology, the building process, water consumption, waste, pollution, transport, materials, health and comfort. The system uses quality weighting; a building receives one of the following valuations as a total score: Pass, Good, Very Good, Excellent or Outstanding.
