The flexible distribution centre will be located at business park Hessenpoort in Zwolle, a city in the northeast of the Netherlands.

The new 25,000 m2 building is expected to be ready by the end of 2018. It will be located next to Wehkamp's fully automated e-commerce centre at Hessenpport. The two buildings together will create a multifunctional and flexible distribution hub totalling more than 60,000 m2.

WDP and Wehkamp are investing more than €40 mln in the project. WDP owns the buildings, with Wehkamp leasing the space.

Accelerated growth
Wehkamp describes itself as an online department store for families in the Netherlands. Wehkamp's website has over two million regular customers, more than 500,000 visitors per day and sends more than 10 million packages per year.

The addition to its distribution capacity is required because of the growth in the business, both in terms of orders and new customers.

'More and more people, including many families, are finding their way to Wehkamp, and online shopping will only continue to increase in the coming years. We are investing further in growth and innovative solutions, both for our customers and for our partners. This extra space gives us enormous flexibility to add to the assortment and ensures that we remain the fastest and the most reliable online store,' said Maarten Tibosch, chief operations officer at Wehkamp.
