Hybrid data centre provider Virtus has commissioned Skanska to build a new data centre in West London, inking a construction deal worth £53 mln (€62 mln).

The contract is for the design and build of the London11 data centre, which will join four other live data centres at Virtus' Slough data centre campus.

London11 will add more than 13MW of new capacity within 5,500 m2 of net technical space to Virtus’ inventory in Slough. Once opened, the Virtus Slough campus will provide a total of over 77.5 MW of power and 32,150 m2 of net technical space.

Skanska's construction brief includes the build and fit out of six new data halls, construction of external steelwork plant gantries, plant rooms for mechanical and electrical and public health services (MEPH), plus all the MEPH infrastructure across the site and office fit out.

Through a partnership with Bryt Energy, Virtus has committed to using 100% renewable, carbon zero energy from wind, hydro or solar sources throughout its estate. London11 will be certified to seven international ISO standards

According to Skanska, construction work will begin in December 2021 and the project will be completed during Spring 2023.

Virtus is one of the largest hybrid data centre providers in London, and is part of ST Telemedia Global Data Centres.
