Europe's student housing sector is coming of age as developers respond to the demand for high-quality accommodation, creating an attractive market for investors, Shulman Capital managing partner Michiel Olland has told PropertyEU.
Shulman Capital has recently formed a strategic partnership with UK-based student accommodation specialist Collegiate AC to launch a €300m European continental student housing fund. Olland said this reflected the 'very resilient' state of the market. Paris-based fund manager Stam Europe is acting in an advisory role.
Speaking at Expo Real, Olland said: 'Collegiate is a very experienced student accommodation manager and with the support of Stam Europe we think we have the excellent skillsets to find the right places and operate student housing assets in the best possible way.'
Collegiate's CEO Heribert Cuanalo said the partnership would enable his company to extend its brand across Europe. 'Shulman Capital approached us over a year ago to discuss their plans for the market in Europe and we spent a lot of time trying to understand them, trying to understand their positioning, and after a long time we came to the conclusion that we'd be strong partners,' he said.
