'Verdion is pleased to be working with Amazon to deliver this key regional facility in Werne. Our selection by the global retailer to invest and develop this important e-commerce facility, reflects the continued expansion and success of the Verdion business in key European markets,' commented Michael Hughes, CEO of Verdion.

Werne, located in the Federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, is situated edge of the Münsterland region near the Ruhrgebiet which has a population of 5.1 million. Verdion said that asset's location grants it access to motorways 1, 2 and 44 and the major West German cities in the Rhine-Rhur area.

Construction of the centre has commenced, with the first of six sections expected to be completed in September 2017. Bremer AG has been appointed as general contractor.

The pan-European developer is also constructing a 102,190 m2 fulfilment centre for Amazon at its 557,400 m2 iPort scheme in Doncaster, UK which will open this year. Amazon already occupies a 20,029 m2 property at iPort.
