Listed construction company Veidekke has been awarded a NOK 740 mln (€63 mln) contract to rehabilitate and remodel an office building in Bjørvika, Norway.
Oslo Atrium was built 20 years ago for the private investment company Watrium AS by Veidekke with Nielstorp+ arkitekter AS.
The same parties have now been tasked with the upgrade work to bring the building up to date and further develop the property with additional qualities.
The sustainable commercial building will be environmentally certified with the the standard BREEAM In-Use level Very Good.
Oslo Atrium will have district heating and a large solar panel system on the roof, while a significant part of the building will be reused, including in other construction projects in Oslo.
Department manager, Rune Andersstuen, of Veidekke Bygg Oslo said: ‘We appreciate the confidence shown in us and being awarded the contract. We have a thorough and good interaction phase behind us and look forward to cooperating further with Watrium and the users of the building. We particularly appreciate the assignment since this is a sustainable project and at the same time the largest contract to date for our rehab department.’
Oscar Wilhelmsen, who is responsible for Watrium's real estate investments, added: ‘In addition to being a modern and future-oriented commercial building, our ambition is for Oslo Atrium to be an attractive meeting point for the public in Bjørvika where the use and atmosphere can be changed and adapted throughout the day.’
In total, 36,000 m2 will be modernised into a state-of-the-art building of the highest quality, with restaurants and other services at ground level, and a roof terrace.
The largest tenant will be KPMG, which will move into three of the floors.
Construction work has started and is scheduled for handover in March 2025.
