The first continental European office of US law firm Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Preston Gates Ellis is to open in Berlin. The team of 11 partners, including five real estate specialists, formerly practised in the Berlin office of Taylor Wessing, an international form of British and German origins.

K&L Gates said in a press release. that its expansion into Germany follows the merging of Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham and Preston Gates & Ellis in announced in December 2006. The real estate partners in the Berlin office are Georg Foerstner, Felix Greuner, Christoph Wagner, Christoph Mank, and Christian Hullman.
The firm said it has 'extensive experience' in all areas of real estate law and transactions. 'Our clients call upon us to help solve the entire spectrum of their real estate-based legal needs, from development and construction, to leasing and acquisitions, to various financing matters, to tax advice and entity structuring, to real estate services and real estate litigation.'
Aside from real estate, the practice will offer services in a range of disciplines and industries, including corporate counselling, mergers and acquisitions, securities, private equity, media, technology, entertainment and labour.
K& L Gates has about 1,400 lawyers in 22 offices located in North America, Asia, London, and now Berlin.
