Unibail-Rodamco has emerged as the winner of PropertyEU’s latest ranking of the Top Retail Developers in Europe.
The ranking is based on projects completed between 2013 and 2015. During this period, the Paris-listed retail property specialist completed a total of 350,537 m2, including the massive 100,000 m2 Mall of Scandinavia which opened its doors in Stockholm in November last year.
The company continues to make waves in terms of new projects and redevelopments. In early April, Unibail-Rodamco officially opened its redeveloped Forum des Halles in the heart of Paris, but that project is not included in the overview for the ranking. That said, Unibail-Rodamco also dominates our ranking of retail developers in terms of pipeline projects. The Paris-listed company has just over 900,000 m2 of new developments scheduled for the coming five-year period including its Mall of Europe in Brussels, its Überseequartier development in Hamburg, Val Tolosa in Toulouse and 3 Pays in Hésingue, northwestern France.
The Franco-Dutch company is not the only listed company that features prominently in our overview of the leading retail developers in Europe. Westfield ranks second in terms of new pipeline projects with its 185,00 m2 mall in Milan. UK REIT Intu follows in third position, with its 177,000 m2 Costa del Sol development in Malaga.
The Croydon Partnership, a joint venture between Westfield and another leading UK REIT, Hammerson, ranks fifth. That project is due to open by 2020.
Ikea Centres has the biggest project in the pipeline – its 215,000 m2 Mega Mytischi in Moscow which is due to open in 2019.
