Identifying the cities that have got what it takes to lead Europe and the world into the next century is one of the key topics at the Urban Land Institute's European conference in Paris on Wednesday.

During a session entitled 'Superstar Cities', Greg Clark, a leading international authority on city and regional development, will predict which cities will lead the world at the end of the 21st Century. Will London and New York, which ruled supreme in the 20th Century, still be at the top? Clark will look at the factors which determine success and the pitfalls on the way, drawing on his work for The London/New York Comparative Economic Study (2000) and ensuing World City Dialogues between London, New York, Paris and Tokyo.

Clark was appointed senior ULI fellow for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) on 1 November 1 last year. He is ULI's first senior fellow outside the US, where the institute has seven senior fellows in residence at its Washington DC base. Clark, 45, has held various non-executive roles including the chairmanships of the OECD Forum of Cities and Regions and the European Urban Development Forum.
