The Urban Land Institute is setting up a new product council to focus on affordable housings in Europe, Greg Clark, senior fellow at the ULI EMEA/India announced on Tuesday during the Provada real estate fair in Amsterdam. ULI, a non-profit organisation founded in the US to promote the responsible use of land, said that the first meeting of the new council will take place in Paris in February next year. The decision to launch a product council dedicated to housing issues comes amid increasing concerns within the residential property sector following the onset of the US subprime mortgage crisis.

The decision to launch a product council dedicated to housing issues comes amid increasing concerns within the residential property sector following the onset of the US subprime mortgage crisis.
'In the US there are several product councils dedicated to the whole housing issue,' said Melanie Hartman of ULI. 'For ULI Europe, this would be the first one.' The move is also in line with the organisation's new strategy aimed at increasing its membership in the public sector. Hartman: 'We are seeking to increase our appeal to governmental organisations, because most members are currently from the private investment and development sector.'
The chairperson of the new council is to be proposed to ULI's European committee in the coming months.
