UK-based regeneration specialist St Modwen Properties has appointed Mark Allan as its new chief executive.

Allan will take up the role on 1 December succeeding Bill Oliver, whose retirement was announced in February. He will join the company a month earlier to ensure a smooth transition.

Allan has been chief executive of Unite Group, the UK's largest listed operator of purpose-built student accommodation, since September 2006. He joined Unite in 1999 from KPMG and has held various finance and commercial positions, including chief financial officer from 2003 to 2006.

He is a qualified chartered accountant, a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and serves as a trustee director on the non-executive board of Anchor Trust.
