Martin Barber, the co-founder and former chief executive of Capital & Regional, is to return with a business aiming to buy UK commercial property, Financial Times reported on Monday.
Barber, who left Capital & Regional a year before his scheduled retirement in 2008, said he had backing from US institutional investors for the venture, called Zenith Estates.
Barber is a well-known figure in the UK commercial property industry, and has been linked with various ventures since his departure from Capital & Regional, the retail and leisure property investor and fund manager he co-founded 30 years ago.
Barber said that the company aimed to buy £2 bn- £3 bn (EUR 2.2 bn - EUR 3.4 bn) of property, with the intention of floating the business at the end of five years as a real estate investment trust. He added that he had lined up £1 bn of deals
