Swede Anders Moberg is to take the helm at shopping mall developer Majid al Futtaim (MAF) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 1 July when he steps down as ceo of Dutch retail chain Ahold. Moberg, 57, takes over at MAF from Francois de Montaudouin who leaves the company on 5 July.

Moberg has had a long career with privately-owned and publicly-listed companies since 1974. He was president and ceo of Swedish-based furniture chain Ikea from 1986 to 2002, and served as division president international at Home Depot, the world's largest home improvement retailer based in the US. He took over at Ahold in 2003 when the retailer was endangered by a EUR 1 bn accounting scandal at its US. Foodservice business. Ahold recently sold the American catering supplier for just over $7 bn (EUR 5.2 bn).

MAF was established in 1992 and has expanded rapidly since then. It plans to develop 30 new shopping malls in the Middle East and North Africa up to 2015.
