Two Portuguese builders are set to create one of the four biggest construction groups in the country. Grupo Lena and Construtora Abrantina are planning to merge their activities in a conglomerate with sales estimated at about EUR 600 mln in 2007, news agency Thomson Financial reported, citing weekly Expresso. Officials of both companies declined to comment on the process, which was reportedly finalised on Thursday.

Grupo Lena operates in construction, real estate, industry, natural gas, services, communications and is active in Portugal, Romania, Angola, Brazil, and Mozambique. The developer's volume of activities in 2006 came to EUR 512 mln. Abrantina is involved in construction and real estate in Portugal, Angola, Malaysia, Mozambique and Algeria. Expresso added that the Portuguese construction sector could see further consolidation with sources indicating talks between OPCA, Edifer and Construtora do Tamega.
