European alternative investment management firm Tunstall Real Estate Asset Management has expanded its senior team by hiring industry veteran Steve Smith as a senior advisor.
Smith has over 40 years of experience in the real estate industry and is currently non-executive chairman of Starwood Real Estate Finance, The PRS REIT and AEW Long Lease REIT and a Director of Gatehouse Bank.
He is also a director of the Pollen Estate as well as being on the Network Rail Property Supervisory Board and was formerly on the Board of Tritax Big Box REIT, until his resignation in May 2017.
From January 2010 to March 2013 he was the chief investment officer of British Land. Prior to British Land, Smith was a director of AXA Real Estate Investment Managers and global head of asset management and transactions. During the five year period between 2003 and 2008 he was responsible for authorising close to €40 bn of transactions, including sales, purchases and developments.
Prior to joining AXA in 1999, he was managing director at Sun Life Properties for five years.
