'We are investing not only in London, already one of the world's premium destinations but specifically in the potential of the 2012 Olympics,' said Travelodge chief executive Grant Hearn. Research commissioned by the hotel chain shows that the economic impact of the Olympics after the games could amount to some £2.2 bn. This year alone, the budget group says it plans to open up 1,000 rooms. It is also exploring a new room design to use for all the new London hotels it will open in the run up to the Olympics. The aim is to have 40% of London's budget hotel market by 2012.
