In total, the family-owned company led by CEO Alexander Otto completed 399,990 m2 of projects over the period, including two in Poland.

The biggest was the 85,000 m2 Silesia City Center redevelopment in Katowice which came on stream last year. ECE also completed a project in Poznan in 2016 and Zielone Arkady (pictured) in Bydgoszcz in 2015, which together with seven other schemes completed in the period under review provides the basis for this year’s ranking.

ECE now operates eight retail schemes in Poland. Galeria Baltycka in Gdansk is currently being extended while Galeria Lódzka in Lódz is undergoing a refurbishment. In terms of new schemes, ECE is engaged in a number of projects in its home country Germany as well as Italy.

At end-March, the German developer opened the Adigeo shopping centre in the northern Italian city of Verona and elsewhere in the country it is redeveloping its 49,000 m2 Megalo mall in Chieti. This shopping centre is due to open in 2020.

ECE remains active in its home market Germany where the focus has shifted to redevelopment. In Munich it is working on the redevelopment of the PEP and Olympia-Einkaufszentrum centres, while in Frankfurt it is engaged in the redevelopment of MyZeil. Another German redevelopment in the pipeline is ECE’s Loom shopping centre in Bieleveld.
