Tokoro Capital, a real estate investment manager set up by Sanjay Sethi and Max Bassadone, has announced the appointment of John Hopkins as head of Finance, effective immediately.
Based in London, Hopkins will oversee the company’s finance function, including all accounting, compliance and auditing processes. Alongside Sethi and Bassadone, he will be closely involved in future fund raising activity while serving as a key point of contact for both investors and lenders.
He brings over 20 years’ industry experience, including 11 years at Ares Management where he rose to Director, Finance and Accounting, responsible for financial reporting for the €3 bn Ares European Real Estate Fund range, including its opportunistic and value-add real estate funds and co-investment vehicles.
He joins Tokoro after three and a half years at Pradera, where he oversaw a €700 mln portfolio of pan-European retail assets. Prior to joining Ares, he spent eight years at Barings Asset Management culminating in the role of Group Financial Controller.
The hire follows the close of Tokoro Capital’s maiden Fund, TKO-I LP, which launched in July 2020 with €250 mln of investable capital, assuming leverage. The Fund is targeting office opportunities in the €20 mln to €100 mln value range with an initial focus on Paris and London, Europe’s two most liquid and transparent real estate markets, but will consider assets in other European gateway cities.
Max Bassadone, co-founding partner at Tokoro Capital, commented: ‘Having launched our first fund and identified a significant pipeline of acquisitions, we are now looking to build out our team with highly experienced investment professionals. We look forward to leveraging his skill set, which ranges from structuring complex transactions across a number of European markets through to designing innovative frameworks, as well as expertise in governance and investor reporting, as we enter the next stage of our growth.’
