Michael Spies, one of the best-known senior property professionals in the US and Europe, is stepping away from Tishman Speyer after a career spanning 30 years with the company.
The senior managing director has served Tishman Speyer in various roles including head of Europe, new markets, India, head of innovation, and chair of the investment committee.
Spies has lived in both Berlin and London as he established and then grew the European platform for the company, one of the world's leading real estate developers, owners, operators and asset managers. More recently, he returned to New York where he established Tishman’s innovation effort including the creation of Zo and Studio. During his long spell, he has led Tishman Speyer into a total of nine new countries and 16 cities.
In a private note to friends and associates, Spies said he was stepping away following an ‘incredibly exciting and fulfilling chapter’ in his professional life. He also expressed tremendous gratitude and pride in many meaningful accomplishments alongside ‘amazingly talented colleagues.’
Spies is continuing as senior advisor to Tishman Speyer, but he has also established his own platform, Fuse Strategies. He remains closely connected to the Urban Land Institute (ULI) where he has held various positions and is a global governing trustee.
