US developer-investor Tishman Speyer has leased 53,000 m2 of office space to the French government at Tour Esplanade in La Defense business district in Paris.
The company said the deal is the largest in the Paris region in the past 12 months and the largest at La Defense since 2008.
Under the deal, the French ministries of housing and ecology will move into Tour Esplanade, a 36-storey office tower located between the CNIT exhibition centre and the Grande Arche near the main pedestrian avenue. The lease enables the French authorities to consolidate space from five locations.
The ministries will fully occupy Tour Esplanade, moving in by mid-2014 after the current tenant vacates and after Tishman Speyer renovates and customises the building. Under the lease agreement, the government will also have a purchase option on the property.
The building, which was built in 1990 and subsequently refurbished, was awarded one of France’s highest HQE (green building) ratings in 2011.
