As chair, Hannam will provide strategic oversight to the organisation – which is itself one of the UK’s largest social enterprises - to ensure it is well positioned to meet the changing needs of the property sector.

He is currently a non-executive director at Gateway Housing Association. Previously, he was deputy chair of the board at the University of East London for eight years, and chair of Fair Finance - the London-based social lender for eight years.

Conrad Peberdy, managing director at Ethical Property, said: 'We are thrilled to have Mark on board and I am looking forward to working with, and learning from him.
'Mark shares our passion, values and commitment to delivering impactful results for our shareholders, tenants and the communities we work within.

'He has so much experience and knowledge to offer, over the coming months we will work with Mark to continue to provide workspace for some of the UK’s most impactful organisations.'

Hannam will support Peberdy in setting a direction for the business which will enable Ethical Property to meet its objectives and priorities over the coming months and years.

Hannam will be an advocate for the organisation and will offer his knowledge and experience to deliver against the triple bottom line.

He has a wealth of experience in financial services, having worked as a senior manager for the Bank of England’s reserves management team and then as a managing director for Barclays Global Investors. Here, he set up and ran the European cash business, the investment solutions team, and was appointed the first chair of the European Diversity Committee.

Said Hannam: 'I am delighted to be appointed as chair at Ethical Property. The last few years have been difficult for many organisations – but Ethical Property has weathered the storm all the way through.

'The team made effective business decisions and adjustments quickly, and as a result has continued to deliver social impact throughout a tricky period.'

Ethical Property is itself one of the UK’s largest social enterprises, which works to a triple bottom line. It offers flexible and fair leases to its tenants. The company believes that, by bringing impactful organisations together, real change can happen.

Each of Ethical Property’s centres is powered by renewable energy, have a range of energy-saving features, and are each situated with close access to green and open spaces.

Added Hannam: 'The company’s values and ethics align well with my own – the team is committed to the triple bottom line and making an impactful difference in our society.

'As an organisation, it sticks to its principles and values – while remaining profitable.

'On a personal note, I admire the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability – it’s absolutely the right priority and I’m looking forward to supporting the team to deliver on some of its ambitious goals.'
