The revamp of Berlin’s biggest shopping centre (93,500 m2) will involve the creation of a new North Island, housing around 30 retail units, due to open in the autumn, as well as improved overall access and navigation. The centre will remain open to the public during the works.

The second phase of upgrades follows the creation of a new Fashion Mall on the ground floor which opened its doors to the public at end-2015.

The full modernisation programme for Gropius Passagen, in which TH Real Estate and Unibail-Rodamco say they are investing a ‘considerable sum’, is due to be completed by 2019.

Gropius Passagen opened in 1969 and is located in Berlin’s Neukölln district. The mall comprises over 140 retail units in total, with tenants including Media Markt, Galeria Kaufhof, H&M and Douglas. It is 80%-owned by TH Real Estate, with Unibail-Rodamco Germany owning the remaining 20%. Unibail-Rodamco Germany manages the centre.
