The Student Hotel Group, the co-living, co-working and hospitality provider, has confirmed it will make its German debut in Dresden, after acquiring its second development project in the country.
While the co-working and accommodation specialist commenced work on a Student Hotel in Berlin earlier this year, due 2019, the newly acquired Dresden scheme will come online in summer 2018.
Refurbishment of the 12,800 m2 property on Pragerstraße 13, in Dresden's retail district, will start early 2018. The Student Hotel Dresden is taking shape in the former Ibis Lilienstein location, part of a three-building complex originally opened in 1969. Ibis will continue to occupy the other two buildings, Bastei and Koenigstein.
'We are very pleased to be able to announce our second development in Germany,' commented Charlie MacGregor, The Student Hotel’s founder and CEO.
'We are excited about the location in this dynamic part of the city of Dresden and it is our ambition to create a vibrant heart which will address the needs of both the locals and international community ensuring Dresden is a key destination in our European network.'
Comprising 306-rooms on completion, The Student Hotel Dresden will provide hotel rooms and co-living studios for students, young professionals, travellers and entrepreneurs. Services will include study and gaming areas, meeting rooms, co-working areas, a restaurant and bar, plus a gym.
Dresden is home to more than 47,000 students of which 14% are international students. The Student Hotel group said it was also looking for other development projects in German cities such as Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt and Cologne.
The construction of The Student Hotel in Berlin (pictured) started earlier this year in joint venture with Triton Development. It will comprise 456 rooms over eight floors, covering more than 17,000 m2, launching in 2019.
The developer, investor and operator currently has 4,392 rooms in 11 hotel locations including Rotterdam, Amsterdam, The Hague, Groningen, Eindhoven, Maastricht, Barcelona and Paris. The Student Hotel Florence, Bologna and Dresden will open in 2018, with Madrid, Berlin and Delft set to launch in 2019, and Rome and Vienna in 2020.
The group plans to have 41 properties (17,550 rooms) in Europe's major cities by 2021.
