Sponda, the Helsinki-based real estate investment company, has purchased the Elovainio shopping centre development in the western Finnish town of Ylojarvi from developer Rakennustoimisto Palmberg for EUR 62 mln. The vendor will continue to be responsible for building the shopping centre and will arrange financing during construction. Sponda will pay this on completion of the property in the spring of 2009.

The shopping centre will have about 24,500 m2 of leasable retail premises and parking for 850 cars. Sponda is purchasing the property fully leased, and the main tenant will be K-Citymarket.
Sponda Plc is a real estate company specialising in commercial properties in the largest cities in Finland and Russia. The fair value of Sponda's 1.3 million m2 of investment properties is approximately EUR 2.4 bn. The company is listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange.
