The project means an investment of EUR 131.7 mln in plots of land, EUR 57,4 mln in construction and EUR 16 mln in fees for the project design. The majority of the buildings will be managed directly from the Public Business Agency for Land, part of the Ministry of Housing. The initiative aims at giving 5,688 families access to housing and it will be the first project for which the application of the Construction Technical Code, as recently approved by the Government, will be used.

Vice President María Teresa Fernández de la Vega pointed out that this represents a step forward for the Government Housing policy. She also noted that the Ministry of Housing has already achieved 53,5% of the commitment it assumed for the whole term. The 2005-2008 government housing plan envisages house funding for 720,000 families and the Ministry has already financed housing for a total of 385,000 families. In the last 12 months the Ministry began the construction of 85,000 state-subsidized housings which compares to an average of 45,000 in period 2000-2002.

President José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero Socialist Party (PSOE) has been in power in Spain since April 2004.
