An investor consortium represented by Somerset Capital Partners has acquired 41 supermarkets from Supermarkt Vastgoed FGR for €180 mln.
The 41 retail properties are located throughout the Netherlands and are fully let on a long-term basis to both Ahold (25) and Coop (16).
Somerset completed the acquisition yesterday, placing the 41 properties in a newly established fund. Together with Somerset, the new fund aims to expand the portfolio to more than a hundred supermarket real estate locations throughout the Netherlands within two to three years.
Joes Daemen, managing partner of Somerset Capital Partners said: 'With the addition of this high-quality supermarket real estate portfolio, we are making a great diversification move in our investment portfolio in one go.'
Somerset Capital Partners, founded in 2005 and based in Oisterwijk, is a venture capital investor in real estate and private and public equity. Earlier this year, the firm spun off its logistics real estate and development activities under the Intospace brand, and invested in battery maker LeydenJar Technologies, amongst others.
Supermarket Vastgoed FGR was founded in 2012 as a result of the sale of real estate assets by CVC, then owner of Schuitema (C1000 supermarkets). At the end of last year, Annexum, a provider of real estate funds for private investors, took over the Jumbo supermarket sites from the same fund.
