Nordic construction giant Skanska has been commissioned to build a mixed-use development in the City of London by Derwent London, inking a contract worth £57.6 mln (€65 mln).
Skanska will begin work on The Featherstone Building, EC2 in September 2019, with work due to complete in November 2021.
The mixed used commercial development, consisting of office and retail space, will have an internal floor area of about 1,160 m2 and a 90-metre-long façade. According to Skanska, the project will be designed to look like four individual office blocks that vary in height and colour.
The Featherstone Building is targeting the highest environmental standards to achieve both BREEAM 2014 outstanding and LEED V4 platinum environmental accreditations. It will replace two existing buildings, one of which is Monmouth House - a 3,900 m2 office building dating from the 1960s.
In 2018, Skanska had sales of SEK 36 bn (€3.4 bn) and about 14,200 employees in its European operations.
Outside the Nordics, the company has European operations in building construction and civil engineering in Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and the UK.
