Czech real estate company Sekyra Group plans to significantly strengthen its international presence in the next five years, company founder Lu-dek Sekyra told Czech Business Weekly in an interview. Sekyra said that some 10% of the company's projects are now outside the Czech Republic and Slovakia but that he would like to boost that figure to about 50% within the next five years.

Sekyra said the group currently has projects worth more than EUR 200 mln in Russia and Ukraine. It is setting up a project team for investment in the Polish market and is interested in the Romanian market as it makes the transition from a leading domestic developer to a regional real estate group. The company is also considering entering new markets in the Middle East and India, while strengthening its position in its home market. The group's key priorities will remain development, asset management and public-private partnerships although it is also active in facility management and brownfield regeneration,.

Sekyra expects the value of his company and the number of projects to at least double in the next five years. As it grows, the group will need close to EUR 1 bn to fund existing projects and regional expansion, Sekyra said. While not opposed to a global partnership, any offer would have to be exceptional given what he called 'the group’s unique position in the real estate market.'

Sekyra has partnerships with local developers in both Russia and Ukraine, but says this doesn’t stop the group from operating independently in these markets. 'Each country is individual and we assess whether we expand on our own or through a local partner. In some projects it can be a combination of both,' he said.
