Actor Robert De Niro and Capital & Counties Properties have been given the green light to build the Wellington Hotel, a boutique property in Covent Garden.
Westminster city council granted planning permission yesterday, after Capco lodged the plans for the 83-bedroom hotel in May.
Work on the project, which will be spread over six buildings, will start next year. The properties are located in Wellington, Tavistock, Burleigh and Exeter Streets and three of them are Grade II listed. The hotel will also have two restaurants, a spa and a members' club.
The Wellington is scheduled to open in 2019 and will be run by BD Hotels, with whom De Niro operates The Greenwich Hotel in Tribeca, New York.
