Redevco is to open its first two shopping centre schemes in Turkey in the third quarter of this year. Gordion Shopping Center, which is being developed in Ankara, Turkey's capital and second largest city, will open its doors at the end of August. Erzurum Shopping Center in Erzurum, the largest city in the Eastern Anatolia Region, is scheduled to open at the end of September.

The Gordion Shopping Center will be the first building in Turkey to have a BREEAM certificate, Redevco said. Erzurum Shopping Center will be the first organised retail concept in Erzurum. The challenging economic outlook for 2009 will not lead to a change in the opening date because of a healthy interest and preleasing situation, Redevco said.

The Gordion and Erzurum schemes will bring together local and international brands, and offer a wide spectrum of products ranging from textiles to electronics, personal care to health care and consumer basics to white goods.

Gordion Shopping Center, which will provide a total of some 50,000 m2 of gross leasable space, has already signed up tenants such as Inditex Group Brands, C&A, Teknosa, Electroworld, Boyner Group Brands (Network, Fabrika, Benetton and Carrefour.

Erzurum Shopping Center, which will provide some 32,000 m2 of gross leasable space, has already been let to tenants including Carrefour, Teknosa, Cinebonus, Koton, Boyner Brands (Benetton, Network, Fabrika), Boyner Department Store, LCW, as well as Greyder, Yves Rocher, Dagi, Penti, Süvari, Yeþil Kundura and KRC.

To improve energy efficiency and to promote green design, both the Gordion and the Erzurum Shopping Centers, designed by Chapman Taylor Espana, are being developed according to BREEAM standards. BREEAM is the world’s longest established and most widely used green building standard.
