Dutch property company Redevco has submitted development plans for a new landmark building at George Square, in the heart of Glasgow, Scotland. The Amsterdam-based company has put forward plans to Glasgow City Council which propose redevelopment of George House, a 1970's office block located on the northern corner of George Square with an iconic landmark building which would enhance the attraction of George Square, it said in a press release.

The proposed new building would provide 27,000 m2 of office space and ancillary uses such as a restaurant and convention facilities. The new George House would allow many more people to make active use of George Square, and appreciate its importance within the City, Redevco said.

For the past few years Redevco has worked closely with Glasgow City Council and Historic Scotland to establish the design concepts, which would enable the provision of a new multi-functional building of high-quality design. Scottish architects Reiach and Hall won the design competition, which attracted entries from many of the UK's foremost architects

David Smith, portfolio director at Redevco UK, said: 'Redevco has gone to great effort to ensure that the designs for the new George House would provide Glasgow with a landmark building befitting the iconic location.'
