Redevco, one of Europe's leading real estate development companies, has announced the opening of the five new stores which make up the extension to its shopping centre on Avenue Wilson in Jemappes, Belgium.
Redevco Belgium completed this second and last phase of the site's complete refurbishment in cooperation with the city of Mons, the Walloon Region and the various tenants already present on the site.
The first phase of the project started in August 2005 and involved the renovation of the former Carrefour hypermarket. The renovation comprised a complete refurbishment of the existing building, including a general architectural upgrade of the façades and the covered promenade, and replacement of the sprinkler and smoke extraction systems, as well as a complete overhaul of the car parks and surrounding areas, replacement of infrastructure, and splitting of the drainage network.
The first phase comprised the division of the former hypermarket into three new retail units: a Media Markt store, with 4,600 m2 GLA, a 2,500 m2 Colruyt supermarket and a 3,700 m2 Rack Store. The Quick restaurant and three existing smaller stores were also retained.
