Redevco has delivered its second shopping centre in Turkey in just two months with the opening of the Erzurum centre to the public last week.

Redevco has delivered its second shopping centre in Turkey in just two months with the opening of the Erzurum centre to the public last week.

The opening of Erzurum shopping centre in eastern Anatolia comes weeks after Redevco's 50,000-m2 Gordion Shopping Center welcomed its first shoppers. Redevco is developing three other shopping-centre projects in Turkey, one in Edirne and two in Manisa.

Last week, Redevco marked the opening of Eruzum Shopping Center with a special ceremony attended by the Mayor of Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality Ahmet Küçükler, Palandöken Municipality Mayor Orhan Bulutlar and managing director of Redevco Turkey Patrick van Dooyeweert.

Up to 10,000 people enjoyed shows and performances held throughout the day. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressing the crowd by live video, congratulated Redevco and Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality on the shopping and cultural centre, which he said 'meets a need for social and leisure facilities in the run-up to the 2011 Winter Universiade'. Turkish Health Minister Recep Akdag also gave a speech via video conferencing.

The 32,000-m2 Erzurum Shopping Center comprises more than 130 stores, a food court and leisure facilities. Enclosed parking facilities located directly under the shopping centre offer 1,200 spacious and well-lit parking spaces.

The centre is the is the first green shopping centre, and the first BREEAM-certified building. The shopping centre is managed by Redevco Turkey's in-house mall management team.
